The Brennand Workshop appeared in 1971 in the ruins of a pottery from the beginning of the 20th century, as a materialization of an obstinate and unremitting project of the artist Francisco Brennand. Former brick and tile factory inherited from its father, installed in the lands of Engenho Santos Cosme and Damião, in the historical district of Várzea, and surrounded by remnants of the Atlantic Forest and the waters of the Capibaribe River, Cerâmica São João became an inspiring source and depository of the history of the Pernambuco artist.
Unique place in the world, the Brennand Workshop is a monumental architectural complex of great originality, in a constant process of mutation, where the work associates with the architecture to give shape to an abyssal, Dionysian, subterranean, obscure, sexual and religious universe.
The presence of the artist in a continuous work of creation gives the Workshop an unusual character, identifying it as an institution intrinsically alive and with a dynamic that makes the directions of architecture and work unpredictable.
