The origin of the Engenho Park dates back to the 18th century when, in 1724, a sawing mill built in wood and driven by the wind was erected. This ingenuity caused the admiration of many people for the quality of their work. Unfortunately it was destroyed in 1774 in a fire.
1.5 km north of the city center, on the right before the crossing to Monte Real.
At the site where the park is located today, a wall was built to protect the mill, at the Marquis de Pombal's command, several buildings where the administrations of the forest services, sawmills, stables, nurseries, an experimental field of botanical studies, , a chapel, etc.
It is a space full of grove and gardens that for many years has hosted many popular celebrations.
