These bullfights and other shows were held by closing the entire Park. After Messrs. David Maduro from Venezuela and Cuban Federico Williams taught and implanted the game of soccer in Cúcuta, it became a kind of stadium, where the fierce local and regional tournaments were played and the great challenges with teams from other latitudes . This park was where football was played for the first time in Colombia, there the Cúcuta Deportivo was founded and from there the first delegation that represented Cúcuta in the National Olympic Games that were held in Cali in 1928 came out. 39 and 40 on the occasion of celebrating the first centenary of the death of General Santander, the municipality donated this place to the nation so that the Santander building, better known today as the National Palace, could be built there. Today only a small part of this park remains where the Italian colony of the 1940s donated the Globe for Cúcuta, a monument that still remains. This monument was inaugurated together with the National Palace or Santander Building in 1940. Its properties were acquired in 1913 from: Cesarea Calderón, Genaro Rojas and Paulino Torres, bought on August 5; that of María de la O. Martínez bought on August 6; those of Juana Tamayo, Camilo Moreno and ‘edro Mora on August 18; that of Carmen Rangel on August 16; another by Pedro León on September 8; In 1930, the properties of Francisco de Paula Andrade, Silvio Trillo, Magdalena Bracho, Jorge Soto and Carmela Rangel were acquired. In addition, Mr. César Casto assigned a lot of his property to the municipality.
After the earthquake and the new layout of the city, it was demarcated between avenues 2 and 4 with streets 8 and 9 of the new nomenclature of the city.
In this square, bullfights were held, alternating with Parque Santander and Parque Colón, during the famous and traditional Juliana festivities that the honorable City Council annually programmed to commemorate the Cry of Independence.
