The ruins mountain is this hill between Potsdam-Bornstedt in the west and the Potsdam Jägervorstadt in the east. For the watering of the fountains in the enlarged adjoining Sanssouci Park, developed by Friedrich the Great in 1748, build on the knoll and water reservoir and embellish it with artificial ruins as antique design elements. In the course of the landscape beautification in Potsdam, Friedrich Wilhelm IV commissioned the garden architect Peter Joseph Lenné in 1841 with the horticultural design of the ruin mountain area.
