It is a recreational and tourist center. It is one of the few green areas that Mexico City owns, measures 647.5 hectares and consists of three sections.
The former is the oldest, since since pre-Hispanic times it was a place of recreation for the Texcocan and Mexican rulers, it is the Grasshopper hill, to which the place owes its name, since it means the word Chapultepec in Nahuatl. At the top is the Castle, the current National History Museum, in the middle of the hill we find the Caracol Museum, next to the springs that existed there, a small lake. In the background is the Mexico City Zoo and the official residence of Los Pinos. Also the Museums of Modern Art, Rufino Tamayo and the National Museum of Anthropology.
The second section, an extension of the first, was built in the 1960s and therefore has two lakes, the mechanical games section, restaurants, roads, jogging and cycling areas, colorful fountains, children's playgrounds and three museums: Technological History and natural, adding in the last decade the modern Children's Museum.
The third section, built later, is intended to be a type of ecological reserve, so it has more green spaces that seek to bring people closer to nature.
It is located west of Mexico City, between Reform, Constituents, Inner Circuit and Peripheral.
The complete forest is a place for recreational activities such as picnics, paddling on the lakes, visits to the zoo or different museums, playing the mechanical games of La Feria de Chapultepec, the house of mirrors, for children's coexistence, for audio or to walk between forest paths.
