Johann Friedrich Theodor Müller was born in the village of Windschholzhausen, Germany, on March 31, 1822. “Fritz Muller” as he was called, studied mathematics and natural sciences in Berlin, was a doctor of philosophy and completed medical school at the age of 27. , embarking for Brazil in May 1852.
His scientist skills contributed to the formation of opinions and influenced behaviors.
While maintaining contact with great researchers in Europe, he maintained great friendship with the scientist Charles Darwin who called him "Prince of the Watchers." Fritz Müller wrote the book Pro-Darwin, defending the theory of natural selection of species.
After the naturalist's death in 1897, some of his relatives resided in this house. The Fritz Müller Museum of Ecology was founded on June 17, 1936, at the time called the "Fritz Müller House".
In 1996, the Municipal Environment Foundation (FAEMA) started to take care of the place, giving an educational character to environmental issues. The library, open to the public, has a collection of approximately 10,000 items.
Opening hours: Open daily from 8h to 11h30 and from 13h30 to 17h30
