This is a region of human occupation from remote periods, with several megalithic remains in the vicinity, and it will have been an important Roman "villa" with a large thermal complex, occupied from the middle of the first century until the end of the fourth century AD.
This Villa was situated in the important territory of Ebora Liberalitas Julia, near the Roman road to Salacia (Alcácer do Sal), and would have been the patrimony of a seigniorial class linked to the exploitation of the land.
As early as the fourth century the villa would occupy an area of about 500 m2, with double spas for both sexes, with rooms and tanks of hot and cold baths. There are now three bath tanks, rectangular in plan, built by walls of mortar, the largest being 24.5 meters long and 4.6 meters wide.
The Roman Villa of Tourega is situated in the parish of Nossa Senhora da Tourega, belonging to the historic municipality of Évora, on the immense Alentejo plain.
