Located on the northeast coast of Scotland, between the Dee and Don rivers, lies a land of immense history and heritage, under an air of culture and escapism. Aberdeen, also known as "The City of Granite", reflects its diversity in its contrasting landscape, consisting of two miles of golden sandy beaches, cliffs, harbors, rivers and forests. A panorama not to be missed.
The city's old buildings roam high and deep, creating one of Scotland's most wonderful profiles. The balance between modern life and history has made Aberdeen an attractive city for all. Whether for shopping, outdoor recreation, eating out, tasting your famous gisiski, enjoying its energetic nightlife or enjoying the cultural calendar, every corner of the city will bring you a new experience.
In the middle of the city or in the old town, there is always a charming feeling of welcome. Throughout the year, traditional Highland games take place, inviting thousands of people to participate and witness the story. Award-winning museums such as the Gordon Highlanders Museum, the Maritime Museum or the visitor center are some of the attractions.
There are many food places. From cheap to first class, from every corner of the world, to taste or try new things. Aberdeen plays an important role in Scotland's economy in the oil and gas industry and is developing its transportation system to increasingly benefit potential visitors.
Time
In the south of the United Kingdom, Aberdeen has cold weather all year round. During the summer months, it is warmer, but not much.
When to go
If you prefer warmer weather, the best months to visit Aberdeen are between June and September. If you want to visit the city between peak periods, summer months are also the best option. However, if you prefer to avoid tourist waves, winter months are best, but keep in mind that the temperature may be very low.
Religion
The most important religion in Aberdeen is Christianity (the Church of Scotland), but in the city there is freedom of creed.
Traditions
Arberdeen's main traditional festival is the Hogmanay, also known as New Year's celebration. As the clock strikes the change of time, during the early hours of the new year, another tradition called "First Round" is celebrated. First Footing is basically the first person to enter the house on New Year's Day, who must be a man and must wear something symbolic such as a wedge, a butter cookie or charcoal.
Braemar games, also known as Highland games, are a very important tradition dating back to the 11th century. The jazz festival and Braemar Telemark festival have joined the traditional Aberdeen festivals.
