The Amacayacu Park is located in the extreme south of the department of Amazonas. The municipalities of Leticia and Puerto Nariño share the jurisdiction of this protected area that has an area of ​​293,500 hectares. Amacayacu means ´´río de las Hamacas´´ in Quechua language. It is estimated that 150 species of mammals live in the park, among which the Amazon pink dolphin stands out, a unique species in the world.



Amacayacu has a Visitors Center that evokes the way indigenous groups live and tourists who want to know the place are housed there. It also has a conference room, handicraft shop and restaurant.

Visitors are recommended to get vaccinated (minimum 10 days before the trip) against yellow fever and against tetanus and yellow fever (minimum 10 days before the trip). Also, wear light cotton clothing, pants and a long-sleeved shirt; sunscreen, hat, repellent and rubber boots.



To access the Park you must get to Leticia (which has commercial flights). Being there, from the port and taking the Amazon River upstream, the Matamatá creek is reached after a two-hour trip by boat with an outboard motor (approximately 60 km). On this tour, you pass through the islands of Ronda, Los Micos and the hamlets of Santa Sofía and Zaragoza. The northern part of the park can be reached by seaplane over the Cotuhé River. In summer you can walk for five days on a trail that follows the Amacayacu River and the Cabimas creek.



Being in the Amacayacu Park you can get to know the indigenous communities of San Martín de Amacayacu and Palmeras; the Lakes of Tarapoto, half an hour from the park by the Amazon River and the Puente del Dosel, a 60-meter suspension bridge located between the tops of the

trees 30 meters high.
