The railway station belonging to FCAB (Ferrocarriles Antofagasta-Bolivia) fully serves medium and large mining in the area.

In 1910, the North Longitudinal Railroad and the Antofagasta to Bolivia were intercepted, having great movement of cargo and passengers generated by the saltpeter and mining activity of the region in its last decades of boom.



A small town with the same name has been established around it, whose plan does not extend beyond a couple of parallel streets.

From this place there are road bifurcations to the Salar de Atacama, where most of the national monuments and cultural-mining heritage of the area are located.

There are daily frequencies from nearby cities. There are buses that leave from Santiago de Chile. Check with the respective Road Terminals.









The station, converted into a museum, preserves the valuable heritage constituted by the Baquedano railway facilities. Declared a National Monument in 1983.



This town also served as the location for the filming of the James Bond 007 film, Quantum of Solace.
