Founded in 1843 as the first Chilean settlement in southern land, on the Santa Ana rocky hill. It has historical importance since it was the first Patagonian colony in the Strait of Magellan.



Currently there is a reconstruction of the fort that was built in 1843, under the government of Manuel Bulnes Prieto, with all the dependencies and corresponding walls, in wooden logs and grass champas, according to the models used in the past.



Although the remains of the fort that gave rise to the original population of Patagonia are not preserved intact, the fort is a reconstruction that invites us to enjoy the southern wonders with airs of the past.



Located 60 km. south of Punta Arenas., by Route 9 Sur.

By plane

There are daily frequencies from the Santiago de Chile airport in 3 and a half hours of flight, and from Puerto Montt that you should consult.



By car

To get there by car, you must continue from Santiago de Chile on Route 5 South to Osorno where you must cross the Cardenal Samoré Border Crossing to the Argentine Republic, which will take you to the Patagonian sector. Take the Chilean road back through Puerto Natales.



Boat

There are frequencies from Puerto Montt that you can consult.



In Fort Bulnes there is a historical museum called Museo O'Higgins where objects and documents from the history of Patagonia are kept.



It was declared a National Monument in 1968.
