This reserve has an area of ​​737 hectares and is named in this category, as a measure of protection and conservation of its fauna, although the area of ​​gambler and reproduction of the colony of greater importance due to its population size of Lobo de Dos Pelos (Arctocephalus australis ), along the coast of Santacruceña; giving priority to their protection to avoid a possible decrease in the number of species. This animal was relentlessly housed during the 18th and 19th centuries for its high value for its value, although it has been protected since 1937, its recovery seems slow.



The area is present: three types of cormorants, gray (Phalacrocorax gaimardi); rocker (P. magellanicus); and the imperial (P. atriceps); also kelp gull (Larus dominicanus); southern gull (L. scorsbii); black oyster (Haematopus ater), and an important range of other birds, such as: Antarctic pigeon (Chionis alba); common oyster (Haematopus leucopodus); plovers (Calidis fuscicollis and C. Bairdii, Charadrius flaklandiscus) and other migratory birds such as bustards, bandurrias, residents such as martinettes and chicks that nest on the continent.



Completing the tourist attraction you can see killer whales (Orcincus orca) in the months of March-April; Australian dolphins (Lagenorphyncus australes).



Within the terrestrial fauna, we can mention: guanacos (Lama guanicoe); gray and red fox (Dusicyon griseus, D. Culpaeus); dolphins (Conepatus humboldti); hairy (Chaetophractus vilosus); and Patagonian tar (Zaedyus pichyi) among others.



The closest town is Puerto Deseado at 88 km.



It is accessed from national route 281 by provincial 14 to kilometer 35 and, from there, by provincial 91.







This Reserve was declared INTANGIBLE NATURAL RESERVE on 12/30/77 by Provincial Decree No. 1,561 / 77.
