Those who were in this region at the arrival of the Spanish were the Cajibian Indians. Who lived on the banks of the river that bears the same name and belonged to the Paéz ethnic group. Cajibío is derived from the indigenous word caji that means box and bio that means wind, whose compound name is box of wind.





Geography

The Municipality of Cajibío is located between the western and central mountain ranges. Most of its territory is broken and mountainous in the case of the mountain range area. Ecology

Our Municipality has an equatorial ecosystem which allows the development of great biodiversity. It has a great diversity of plants typical of our forests in the mountain range and animals such as foxes, squirrels, rabbits, chuchas and others that resist disappearing due to deforestation caused by man. Its water wealth is important with micro basins such as the Urbio River, the Cajibío River, and Puente Alto. Ecological sanctuaries are being implemented in some farms of the Municipality for the enjoyment of locals and strangers.

Economy

The economy of the Municipality of Cajibío is based mainly on:

-AGRICULTURE, standing out the crops of: COFFEE SUGAR CANE PLANTAIN CHONTADURO SMALL CROPS OF PANCOGER (Beans, Corn, cassava and others) In addition, there is a large production project for the production of ASPARAGUS for export. Cultivation of Tequila for export In the area of ​​the municipal head there are export flower crops, giving 250 sources of direct employment and others in indirect employment. -

LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION Mainly outstanding: Small livestock farms Producing broilers and laying hens in the area of ​​the Pan-American highway have also provided direct and indirect sources of employment.

Colombian Unpublished Andean Music Event Efraín Orozco

The Municipality of Cajibío, "Rincón Musical de Colombia" is pleased to present the IV Event of Unpublished Colombian Andean Music Efraín Orozco under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Government of Cauca, Funmusica and the Municipal Administration headed by Mayor JUAN MANUEL JARAMILLO HURTADO. This event has the participation of singer-songwriters at the national and departmental level. The Municipal Administration of Cajibío continues working for the development of the Municipality not only in investment but also in the cultural area. For this, the IV Meeting of Colombian Andean Music Efraín Orozco will take place on October 17, 18 and 19 with the participation of Singer-songwriters from all over the country for Saturday. In this new stage of the Contest, the modality of Singer-Songwriters of the Municipalities of Cauca in order to show the great talent in terms of unpublished compositions in the category of Colombian Unpublished Andean Music is held in our department.
