Pedra Parideiras is the name given to a phenomenon of granitization, unique in the country and very rare in the whole world. Apart from Portugal, there is only one geological phenomenon in an area near Saint Petersburg, Russia.
This "mother stone", which dates back more than 280 million years, is a granite outcrop where small nodules in the form of biconvex discs are embedded and are between 2 and 12 cm. Thermal oscillations or the effects of erosion cause these nodules to be released from the parent rock and spread around them, leaving their emptiness marked in bas-relief. These small "stones" are composed of the same mineralite elements of granite, the outer layer is composed of biotite (mineral of dark aspect and metallic luster) and the inner one has a nucleus of quartz and feldspar potassium.
