El Castillo was built in 1930 by H.M Rodríguez, the first construction firm in Medellín.
Its architecture was inspired by the castles of the Loire Valley in France. Initially it was the country residence of Mr. José Tobón Uribe, who had the plans brought directly from Paris. The style of the castle is medieval Gothic. Gothic for its spire-finished towers and medieval for the ogival shape of its doors and windows.
