Built in 1722 by the pardos released under the invocation of Menino Deus, Santa Rita and Santa Quitéria. Some years later it was repaired and rebuilt with increase by white devotees that began to use it like matrix during the construction of that new temple. It is the oldest church in the city due to the demolition of the chapels of São Roque and the old one.

Church of Jesuit architecture presents in the internal elements, that integrate it, the characteristics of the baroque-rococo, notably in the policromada carving of the main altar, that has flanked the pediment, the only angels praying in altars of Paraty.

In an attempt to give unity among their altars, when the restoration of the main altar was completed, the two corner altars were painted, which present a new painting. Its altars are dedicated to Santa Rita, Our Lady of Conception and Our Lady of Carmo.

Interesting details in this church are the trellis of its finely crafted internal wooden balconies and the churchyard, in the columbarium style, separated from the church by a churchyard and a garden. This cemetery dates from the early nineteenth century.
