Ciudad del Este is a city in Paraguay, the capital of the Alto Paraná department, located 327 km from the capital, Asunción. Due to its population and economic development, it is the second city of the country. It is the headquarters of the National University of the East.



It is part of the area known as La Triple Frontera, also formed by Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú, as the borders of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil converge there.



It is called "Garden City" for its beautiful urban vegetation, although the city's growth has slowed its green areas. It is a city that was initially planned urbanly, but its growth surprised everyone; therefore, urban planning was improvised. An example is represented by the Regional Penitentiary, located in a residential neighborhood, or the now old airport, located in a very busy location near the center.



In the area there are numerous tourist attractions of various types:



- 20 km north, in Hernandarias, is the Itaipu Dam, the largest hydroelectric plant in the world; there is no other equal in size;

- 8 km to the south, there are the Saltos Del Monday, the river waterfall of the same name;

- 26 km south is the Moisés Bertoni Museum, a protected area where the house where the sage conducted his research and publications.

- 20 km to the east, on the border between Argentina and Brazil, are the majestic Iguazu Falls.

Acaray Park on the Acaray River offers accommodation and summer areas for tourists.

- Lake of the Republic. Located in the city center, it is a leisure space and is surrounded by beautiful vegetation.

- San Blás Cathedral resembles the shape of a ship, built in 1964 with European style stone carvings.

- The Museum "El Mensú", located on the property of the municipality, is the first house of the city, stores objects from the times of the founding of Ciudad del Este and indigenous objects of the region.



The festive dates are on February 3, the city's birthday and patron saint of San Blás. In June, the festival of the three borders takes place.
