The city of Concepción was part of the Wankas ethnic group, who were conquered by the imperial hosts, led by Cápac Yupanqui. Later, Concepción belonged to Hurin Huanca, with its capital Tunanmarca. In the Colony, on December 8, 1536, it was founded as a town, under the order of Francisco Pizarro.
At the time of Independence, on April 10, 1821, María and Higinia Toledo, together with their mother Cleofé Ramos, weakened the ´´Balsas´´ bridge, to prevent the royalists from passing. In merit of their feat, San Martín conferred the rank of Capitanas and Concepción, of ´´Ciudad Heroica´´. In the Republican era, on July 9 and 10, 1882, the heroic people of Concepción showed courage when facing the Chilean army. For this reason it is recognized as ´´City Twice Heroic´´.
