The Convento das Bernardas is a historical landmark dating back to the 16th century. In 2010 its rebuilding was initiated, in a project headed by Eduardo Souto Moura, and features two large salt water swimming pools.
The air-conditioned apartments of this unique facility include a private bathroom, TV, wardrobe and free WiFi. The 2-bedroom and family apartments also feature a fully-equipped kitchen or kitchenette, for guests to prepare their own meals.
The largest convent in the Algarve, it was built to commemorate a military victory in Asilah, Morocco. For over 3 centuries, it was one of the region’s foremost religious centres. Since 2010, award-winning architect Eduardo Souto Moura headed a project to rebuild the convent, whilst retaining as many of the original features as possible.
It’s a 4-minute drive to the Tavira city centre, which has many restaurant options, featuring the local fish and seafood-based gastronomy. There is a wide range of restaurants, bars, and shops within a short walking distance.
It overlooks the secular salt marshes of Ria Formosa. The residence is a 25-minute drive to the Formosa Nature Reserve, with its many walking paths and varied animal life. Benamor and Quinta da Ria golf courses are located within a 5-minute drive from the Residence. The beaches of Tavira Island are just a 2-minute drive from the secular property.
The local train station is 1km from the Convento das Bernardas Residence. The Faro International Airport is a 30-minute drive.
