The foundation of this city of Veracruz dates from 1618. Since then, it has been the scene of important events in history, for example, in Portal de Zeballos, the independence of Mexico has been made official and this is also one of the liveliest spots in the city, thanks to the cafes. and restaurants housed in its arches.

In front is the footer, where pointed palm trees point to the sky and, around it, several buildings of historical and artistic value.

The Immaculate Conception Cathedral has the highest towers of the entity and volumes characterized by a neoclassical style that masks the baroque of its foundation in 1621. Its high altar is a remarkable and authentic jewel, displaying a beautiful work of gold leaf .

With a square facade, is the Municipal Palace in the place occupied by the Royal Houses. Tuscan-Florentine and French elements, is the center of gravity of the city, although it breaks somewhat the harmony of the colonial aesthetics.

The best example of this period will be found in the Portal of Glory, formed by three mansions of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

Nature lovers can hike through the Sierra del Gallego, where there is a profusion of birds, many of which can be observed during an attentive walk.

It is located at the foot of Citlaltépetl, a mountainous area of ​​the center of the state, at an altitude of 860 meters above sea level. It borders to the north with the municipality of Ixhuatlán del Café, to the south with Coetzala, to the east with Amatlán de los Reyes, to the west with Fortín and to the northeast with the municipality of Atoyac. Its approximate road distance to the state capital is 90 km.
