Turismo
Visitors can get a detailed look at the lives of the Plains Indians and the early prairie settlers at this museum located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg . It has nine galleries including a planetarium, a science gallery, and a five-story sailing ship, the Nonsuch. The Manitoba Museum was recently awarded the Michelin Guide's highest rating, 'Worth the Trip.'

Now operated as a non-profit organization by the Manitoba Jockey Club, the Downs thrive once again. Although live horse racing is only in summer, the simulcast broadcasts and warm hospitality keep players coming in droves. Sunday is Family Fun Day at the track, featuring pony rides, a petting zoo, crafts and face painting. Facilities include a Souvenir Center, two restaurants and 100 new VLT's for simulcast viewing. General admission is free to all; clubhouse admission is a reasonable fee though. The place also very frequently plays host to various conventions and trade shows.

Founded in 1904, the Assiniboine Park Zoo has a long history of breeding endangered species including Siberian Tigers and Golden Eagles. There are 1200 animals of 275 different species making this one of the largest zoos in Canada. Mainstays include the Discovery Center, an indoor learning park, and a petting zoo. Winter travelers can look forward to the Lights of the Wild display around Christmas time. This is one of the attractions, which you can't afford to miss.

The Royal Canadian Mint's facility in Winnipeg , designed by local architect Etienne Gaboury, produces billions of coins each year. This is where all Canadian circulation coins are made, as well as those for over 60 governments all around the world. A fascinating guided tour includes the viewing of a five-minute video in the theater area followed by a 40-minute walking tour overlooking the manufacturing facility where the precise art, craft, and science of coin-making is revealed!

Since its opening in 1989, this market has evolved into the quintessential gathering place. After 10 years of development of this historic site and restoration of several historic buildings, it is once again a thriving hub of activity. Walking distance from the downtown hotels and within five minute's shuttle from attractions such as the Convention Centre , Manitoba Legislative Buildings , Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature etc, the market is "must do" for anyone visiting Winnipeg. Time for some days may vary, please check the website for more details.

Fort Whyte Centre is a natural area for recreation and is a treat for avid birdwatchers. It is one of the most popular places to take the kids for a day of adventure and discovery. Located on 200 acres of pristine marshland, the center is seasonal home to more than 200 species of birds and innumerable species of bugs and other critters. The center can also be hired for private parties and events in the midst of natural glory. The Buffalo Stone Cafe is a wonderful place to chill after a day of great activity. Call or visit the website for details of the numerous programs and tours available.

Manitoba Children's Museum is a fun family destination that is a sure-fire winner with kids. Featuring interactive galleries, such as, All Aboard; kids at this hands-on museum can do anything from taking an imaginary train ride to delivering the news in the Television studio. Children will love to explore all the galleries for hours on end. Head to the in-house store and take home a lovely souvenir. You can also host theme parties and events for children at the museum.

King's Head Pub is an authentic English style pub with an incredible array of domestic and imported beer to suit any taste. The food goes beyond the normal fish and chips with an excellent curry menu from an authentic Indian kitchen. The diverse crowd that packs this establishment is offered live music on weekends to amuse themselves while they sample the great brews.

A change of pace from downtown shopping, the flat ground layout of this shopping center makes it easy to navigate. Choose from 160 shops and enjoy the architectural flair and commissioned artwork while you shop. Stop for a meal in a food court that sports fireplaces and a sky lit promenade. Major stores include Wal-Mart, Chapters bookstore, the Gap and Manitoba's only Disney store. It also houses the SilverCity St. Vital movie theater. The mall is about a half-hour drive from downtown. There are wheelchairs, strollers, lockers, a mall-walking program, transit schedules, and parenting washrooms.

Gastronomia
The range-fed bison was one of several dishes that caught my attention at Winnipeg's Fusion Grill. With large picture windows overlooking treelined Academy Road, Fusion Grill is a compact and unpretentious restaurant of only 14 tables, but its deft melding of culinary traditions manages to lure both local foodies and visiting stars, such as Richard Gere, Robin Williams and Susan Sarandon, when they're shooting movies in town. They all come, as did I, for the mouth-watering menu of Fusion Grill favourites: Japan-meets-Manitobameets- Nova Scotia crab cakes, made from tender, sweet pickerel cheeks crusted with panko, or Ukrainian perogies with a French twist — tiny sautéd envelopes of Yukon-Gold-stuffed dumplings set on a round of duck sausage in walnut-cream sauce and drizzled with truffle oil. "The eclectic menu is a fusion of fresh local ingredients prepared in a variety of cooking styles reflecting the ethnic diversity of the province," says Scot McTaggart, the restaurant's owner and driving creative force. "It's a surprising mix that sometimes leaves people confused but happy."

Clima
