It was created on January 2, 1857 and since then it has been an agricultural district because it is located in the center of the Lurín river valley.
In this area, an important flow of population developed from the mountains because it was home to a very important ceremonial center in the time of the Incas since the sanctuary obeyed the belief of a very powerful god called Pachamac, related to the seismic movements that it undergoes. from time to time our territory. This sanctuary was not erected by the Incas but adopted by them given its great prestige. An important manor called Ichma existed since before the Incas, which was annexed to the empire after its expansion.
The district of Lurin is a coastal district located south of Lima between km 26 and km 42 of the South Pan-American Highway. It has in its maritime domains two islets called Islas De San Pedro in front of San Pedro beach.
Legend of the San Pedro Islands [edit] This legend tells that in pre-Hispanic times a beautiful girl lived in the Lurin Valley, with whom the god Curinaya Wiracocha had fallen in love, who within his eccentricities had the habit of pretending to be a beggar in the meetings of the gods made for which they nicknamed him the ´´Lousy´´. Being one day that Curinaya observed the beautiful girl, without daring to confess her love for fear of being rejected, she decides to become a hummingbird and leave her seed of life in a lucuma fruit, of which this girl ate and immediately became pregnant.
Over time the boy grew up and when he was 2 years old the mother decided that her son should have his father, it is then that she calls a meeting with the gods to find the father of her child. Already at the meeting the gods told the mother how she would find out who the father of the child was, then it occurred to the girl that the child should instinctively know, so she left him on the ground so that he could find his father, immediately afterwards the child slowly approached ´´Piojoso´´ Curinaya Wiracocha, so the mother, surprised by this fact and being ashamed, grabs the child and runs out of the meeting, not realizing that Curinaya Wiracocha had become a his true appearance, a strong and handsome man. After the girl left the meeting with her son, Curinaya went out to look for them, arriving very late when the girl in her desperate rush had entered the sea and drowned with her child and those would be the two islets, the largest her mother and the youngest her child that Curinaya Wiracocha would later have turned into stone to immortalize them.
As the main tourist attraction of this Lima district, we find the ruins of Pachacámac, a place that was an important administrative center of the Inca culture and that connected the commerce of the coast and the mountains at that time. The archaeological zone has a site museum and guided tours.
It has beaches where bathers go in summer, such as San Pedro beach, famous for having two islets within walking distance that have been the cause of legends to explain their formation because there are two, one large and one smaller, highlights the legend of Curinaya Wiracocha. The Mamacona farm is located in this district, where the Peruvian Paso Horse is taught and exhibitions are held.
