The color of the water varies from a slightly greenish to light brown color depending on the temperature in droughts or rains, the fauna is mainly composed of birds such as herons, kingfishers, sacha ducks, fishing eagles; also reptiles, mice, etc .; in aquatic fauna we can appreciate the inshaco, carachamas, crabs, mollusks "churos" and freshwater clams, among others. In addition, presence of bread crops such as: corn, cassava, beans, banana, etc. as well as the presence of cattle, pigs and poultry in the surroundings of the lagoon. Near this lagoon is located the town of El Progreso.



Located in Selva Alta, 20 min. south of the city of Rioja, at 835 meters above sea level; with an area of ​​2,145 hectares, with a maximum depth of 3 meters. The coastline is covered by vegetation, shrubs typical of the area, as well as emergent and floating vegetation from the waters.



Currently, this lagoon is being exploited as fish farming and fishing. The means of transport used to get to the lagoon is by land through an affirmed highway.
