The monument is made up of four main structures, among which the Arch of Capricorn, The Way of the Sun, The Gates of the Sun and the Circle of the World stand out, named after those who were in charge of giving life to this sculpture. The Capricorn Arch is an arch almost 11 meters high whose edge serves to mark the seasons of the year.

Visit to the Tropic of Capricorn

The Path of the Sun is a small path that, oriented from North to South, perpendicular to the passage of the tropics, marks the true noon, which is achieved taking as a reference the shadow that originates from the Capricorn Arch. Two majestic walls surround the Camino del Sol and were baptized as Las Puertas del Sol. Both serve as a reference for the demarcation of the equinoxes. The fourth part that gives life to the monument is called the Circle of the World and is responsible for framing the entire work.

To get to Antofagasta from any point located to the south, you must travel along Route 5 north. From Copiapó it is 564 km. and from La Serena 898 km.



If you are traveling from the north, you must travel on Route 5 south. From Calama it is 205 km. and from Iquique 493 km.



By bus

There are daily frequencies from nearby cities. There are buses that leave from Santiago de Chile. Check with the respective Road Terminals.













The site has become one of the major tourist attractions in Antofagasta and is the main meeting place on summer nights for astronomy lovers.
