Námaskarð Pass is a geothermal area on the Námafjall mountain in northern Iceland, less than half an hour's drive from Lake Mývatn.
Connected to the Krafla volcano system, Námaskarð is home to many hot springs, mud pots and fumaroles.
Vivid colors that scratch the earth, dyed by the elements brought by the steam. Expect to see shades of red, orange, yellow and green, particularly concentrated around the sources themselves.
The air smells strongly of sulfur throughout the area, which, though unpleasant, is a constant reminder of the powerful forces that work under your feet. Although it is detrimental to your health a visit for a few hours will not cause any problems.
When exploring Námaskarð, do not touch any of the running waters, as it is likely to be boiling.
