It is located by the sea, with a beach integrated in a landscape of remarkable beauty. In its immediate vicinity, in the crater of an ancient volcano, into which the sea waters eventually infiltrate, and later, by evaporating, are the salt mines of Pedra de Lume, whose salt gives its name to Sal Island. A large part of the salt produced on the island is treated in an existing factory in Pedra de Lume.
In a part of the salinas, it is possible to try to immerse in its waters, which present a high concentration of salt. This high salt density prevents people from getting to the bottom, allowing them to float without any effort.
