Livraria da Pena is a magical place, located in the vicinity of the village of the same name, Aldeia da Pena. To reach such a destination, you must take the legendary “path where the dead killed the living”, which is also considered a very popular tourist spot.
Access to the bookstore requires the support of a guide, as it has a certain degree of difficulty. The route must be covered on foot.
As soon as we start to explore the paths, we can enjoy breathtaking landscapes, where there are steps carved in the rocks, waterfalls and bookstores.
Livraria da Pena is composed of quartzite strata, which are here exposed and verticalized, which resemble a set of books on the shelf of any bookshop. These quartzitic outcrops tell very old stories, about 480 million years old, when this region was located on the shallow banks of a continent that did not exist - the Gondwana - in latitudes then very close to the South Pole.
