Piura Cathedral founded in 1588 under the invocation of the Virgin of the Assumption and San Miguel Arcángel. Inside there is a Churrigueresque altarpiece of the Virgin of Fatima carved in Nicaraguan cedar and covered with gold leaf, which was probably one of the first in Peru. The main altar was rebuilt by the Spanish sculptor Julián Alagua after the 1912 earthquake following the Plateresque style. As the parent church, it preserves the Piura parish archive.
