The archaeological station consists of two buildings, one of which is a spa and the other a salting, both of Roman origin.
The resort, oriented in the Northwest / Southeast direction, includes several rooms, such as a dressing room, several baths and a swimming pool. Salting, east of Balneário, is composed of several cetaria, or salting tanks. A street divided the two complexes.
Story
Probably built in the 2nd or 3rd centuries after Christ, the resort, initially simple, was expanded with new divisions, reaching its peak in the 4th century. Salting, of unknown construction date, worked until the 4th or 5th centuries.
The remains were discovered in 1878 by Estácio da Veiga, who undertook its excavation. At the beginning of the 20th century, the remains were covered, remaining so until they were opened again in 1987, due to the construction of a tourist complex on the site.
The Roman Archaeological Station of Praia da Luz is an archaeological site located in the parish of Luz, in the municipality of Lagos.
In the ruins, several traces were found, including fragments of a marble statue, a silver liturgical spoon and a gold coin from the end of the 4th century.
