This park is located between 2,500 and 5,000 meters above sea level in the departments of Cauca and Huila.

From the capital of Cauca, Popayán, you can see the top of the Puracé Volcano located in the highest part of this park. Within this park there is a volcanic complex formed by the Puracé, Sotará, Pan de Azúcar, Quintín, Paletera, Los Charcas, Piocollo, Calambas, Manchagara and Pucara peaks, among which the Puracé and Sotará are still active.

Due to the existence of these volcanoes within this region it is possible to find numerous sulfur hot springs that give rise to various natural lagoons that are used by tourists for health and relaxation.

Also in its mountains four of the main Colombian rivers are born: the Magdalena, the Cauca, and the Caquetá. And the Patía.

Within its area of ​​influence there is an indigenous reservation of the Coconuco ethnic group and a Guambiano indigenous settlement.





From Popayán you travel 50 km by car until you reach Pilimbalá, administrative headquarters of the Puracé National Natural Park, in this place you can rest, recover and have a snack (Aguapanela with Hojaldra and Cheese), among other delicious meals, in this place begins the hike to the volcano along a path. Lunch can be taken away or lunch back in pilimbalá.



In this region you can find oak, wax palm and Colombian pine, which are in danger of extinction, as well as typical paramo vegetation such as orchids, frailejones, lichens among other species.

Deer, armadillos, howler monkeys, turkey squirrels, parrots, parrots, the tapir and the Andes Condor are part of the fauna that can be found within this natural park.

This park is ideal for lovers of ecotourism, since they have the possibility of taking various walks on the existing trails, enjoying the various thermal water lagoons, practicing observation of Fauna and Flora and taking excellent photographs; in the same way there is the possibility of camping.
