This museum was created on March 30, 1946, today it has a building and a collection product of the efforts of its managers: Adolfo Bermúdez Jenkins, Fernando León de Vivero and Alejandro Pezzia. The first founding director and the third director who succeeded the first. Its prestige is based on the collections it exhibits and offers to its visitors. It was the first Peruvian museum in which paleopathological studies were carried out on pre-Hispanic human remains. The collections were formed by management of their founders before friends of the region. To date, it has made a series of traveling exhibitions within the region and several temporary ones, seeking to stimulate the museum's activity. The main topics on display have been on archeology of the region or works by regional or resident artists.

The Regional Museum of Ica is one of the main centers of tourist attraction in the city. In its history it has offered academic and cultural recreation events. In its exhibits it has a room in which objects from the archaeological collection are exhibited, presented according to their antiquity and role they had in the pre-Hispanic history of the region.



The Regional Museum of Ica has a bioanthropology room in which the human remains of the collection are displayed, illustrating some cultural practices such as deformations, trepanations, hairstyles, funerary contexts as well as some diseases. It also has a room called the colony and the republic. The finally the route leads us to a replica of the Nasca Lines.
