The Sanctuary of Fatima, located in Cova da Iria, Fátima parish (Portugal), is one of the most important Marian shrines in the World.
Annually more than five million visitors, from all countries there. The greatest pilgrimages occur annually on days 12 and 13 of May to October, being traditionally made on foot. On 13 August there is also a great pilgrimage dedicated to the emigrant.
Throughout the world, the cult of Our Lady of Fatima was spread thanks to the travels of the Virgin Pilgrims (images of Our Lady who travel through various countries) and the Portuguese emigrants. It is possible to find several churches, parishes, dioceses, schools, hospitals, monuments, etc. dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima.
Our Lady appeared to Jacinta, teaching her to meditate on the rosary. In the cemetery, in front of the church, the bodies of Francisco and Jacinta were buried, before their transfer to the Basilica of the Sanctuary.
