It is a monastery in Kiev, Ukraine. It is located on the western side of the Dnieper River, on the edge of a cliff and northeast of Hagia Sophia Cathedral. It is located in the upper city, in the historical center and in the administrative district of Kiev, overlooking the commercial part of the city, the Podol district.



Originally built in the Middle Ages by Sviatopolk II, the monastery consists of the cathedral (Mykhaylivs'kyi zolotoverkhyi sobor), the refectory of St. John the Divine, built in 1713, the economic gate (Ekonomichna vrata), built in 1760, and the tower Bell of the monastery, which was added between 1716 and 1719. The exterior of the structure was rebuilt in the 18th century in the style of Ukrainian Baroque, while the interior continues with its original Byzantine style. The cathedral was destroyed in the 1930s by Soviet authorities and was rebuilt after the independence of Ukraine.



The monastery's architecture incorporates architectural elements that evolved from predominant styles during the Byzantine and Baroque periods. The Cathedral of St. Michael of the Golden Domes is the main church of the monastery built between 1108 and 1113 at the request of Sviatopolk II. The cathedral was the largest of the three churches of the monastery of San Demetrio.
