The St. Stephen's Cathedral (German: Sankt Stephan / Stephansdom) is one of the oldest cathedrals of the European Gothic style, it is situated in the center of the city Vienna, Austria.
It is a world-known work and an example of the architecture of the twelfth century. The so-called "Steffl" is one of the most important Gothic cathedrals in the world.
It was renovated in the Gothic style between 1304 and 1433. Its north tower, raised to 70 meters height, was renovated according to the Renaissance aesthetic in 1579 and its interior acquired a baroque trend.
The famous Bell of St. Stephen's Cathedral, the "Pummerin" weighing not less than 21 tons, has suffered considerable damage from World War II attacks, since it has been repaired and is currently used to determine special occasions, as well as announce the new year.
It is currently the seat of the Archdiocese of Vienna.
