It consists of four volcanic peaks and the twin craters (one sometimes called the Montezuma volcano). It is covered with savanna in the lower parts, rain forest in the middle and cloud forest in the high mountains. From the western bank it flows from the Tenorio River and from the Tenorito and Martirio rivers. From the top you can see the Guatuso and San Carlos lanes, Lake Nicaragua, the Caño Negro Reserve and Lake Arenal. From its slopes the Cold River winds. There is a law about an eruption in 1816, but the volcano was observed in a dense forest in 1864 and it is not considered that there was an eruption in historical times. Since 1989 it has been in a pre-feasibility study to determine its geothermal potential. In 1998, the surrounding volcanoes experienced a regular intensity.



Since 1995 the volcano has been part of the Tenorio National Park. It is known for its hot springs (with temperatures of up to 94 ° C) and bubbling pails. Tenorio cakes are spreading to large macadamia plantations.











El Tenorio is located in the province of Guanacaste at 1,916 meters above sea level, divided by a picturesque and ubiquitous valley, known as Bijagua. From this settlement the accent could be placed, even on the routes brought. It is the most volcanic mountain in Guanacaste.
