The old Cathedral was built in 1618. It was rebuilt on many occasions, the last one in the 70's. In the construction, two towers stand out that symbolize two hands in an attitude of prayer.
Inside it keeps the beautiful image of the Lord of Burgos, a one-piece sculpture, highly venerated by the Huanuco faithful.
It is located in the northern part of the Plaza de Armas. The current building is modern and functional in style, designed by the German architect Kuno, its genre is unique worldwide.
Inside there are relics from the ancestor century, such as the chasuble that belonged to Santo Toribio de Mogrovejo and the staff of Monsignor Teodoro del Valle, among others. You can also appreciate the highly valuable pictorial collection belonging to the Cuzqueña School; The painting of ´´The Virgin of the Rosary´´, ´´Santa Rosa de Lima´´, also called ´´Los Esposorios de Santa Rosa´´, ´´La Virgen de Guadalupe´´, gift of Fray stand out for their singular beauty. Jose Mujica. The sculpture of the Apostle Juan and the Virgin Dolores also stands out.
