Primitive settlers of San Juan de La Vega were the Doymas and Bulucaymas of the Panche nation. Its name seems to derive from the circumstances of being in hollow lands on the banks of rivers and streams. By order of June 3, 1605, Mr. Alonso Vásquez de Cisneros founded two towns of Indians: one in the Payanda site called Nocaima, and another in Cambata, which was not given a name and became that of San Juan de La Vega.

The same day, Diego de Herrera Bustos, the mayor of the Panches party, was commissioned to carry out the two towns. On May 17, 1777, Don Eusebio de los Reyes, mayor of the parish of Nocaima, made the census of Indians, which resulted in 166 in La Vega and 112 in Nimaima, then the transfer of the Indians to Nimaima was ordered. It was not fulfilled, but a new town or parish of whites was founded in the place that exists today.

On November 9, 1793, there is talk of the parish of San Juan de La Vega in the jurisdiction of Guaduas. In 1785 it was called the town of San Juan de La Vega and Chinga Caliente, of which Don Juan Matiz was mayor. On March 30, 1797, the Indians of the extinct town of San Juan de La Vega were annexed to the parish of the same and declared that they had been ordered to add Nimaima.





La Vega is a municipality in the department of Cundinamarca in Colombia; one of the 117 municipalities of Cundinamarca. It is 54.4 km from Bogotá on the highway to Medellín.
