Vilcashuamán, which means ´´Halcón Sagrado´´, had a strategic location on the Capac Ñan route (Inca royal road), in addition to a well-accomplished architectural design and well-stocked deposits.



The architectural elements that make up the set are:

Trapezoidal Square:

Capable of holding about twenty thousand people and in the center of which it has a rectangular-shaped stone, with a flat surface and on which two gutters that resemble carved serpents can be seen.

Ushnu (Holy Throne):

Located on the west side of the square, it is considered one of the largest of its kind. This stone structure is shaped like a rectangular pyramid and is made up of five platforms connected by a staircase. At the top, there is a double chair carved in stone that is said to have been occupied by the Inca and the Coya, who presided over the most important ceremonies of the Incan.



Sun Temple:

Located south of the trapezoidal plaza and built on a set of stepped terraces. On the second terrace you can still see some niches and trapezoidal niches, which is characterized by having entrances and exits as buttresses.

On it the Church of San Juan Bautista was built at the end of the 16th century.



Next to this temple is the Acllawasi (House of the Chosen), the Temple of the Moon and other buildings such as the kallancas (sheds for soldiers) and terraces for ritual crops.
