Caniçal is the oldest of the small parishes of this island.
The small beach that has the name of Prainha, and that is quite visited by the vacationers who pass the calm season in the village of Machico.
It is in the Caniçal that the only natural sand beach in Madeira is called Praínha being quite famous and where in summer there is a great influx of local people and tourists.
At the level of festivals, the village of Nossa Senhora da Piedade stands out, where there is a procession very curious because the pilgrims make the procession, not by foot, but by boat and where anyone can participate, entering a boat for free. This camp reaches about 30,000 visitors.
