The founding of the town of San Miguel de Villeta occurred on September 29, 1551, attributed to Captain Alonso de Olalla and his assistant Hernando de Alcocer, which was later abandoned by the attacks of the natives.





Villeta is a municipality of Cundinamarca (Colombia), located in the Province of Gualivá, it is 91 km from Bogotá. Considered the provincial capital of Gualivá.



Villeta is famous for its production of panelera cane, also for its festivities such as the Reinado Nacional de La Panela in January and the Departmental Festival of Bands in August.



The municipality of Villeta is divided into 22 villages: Alto de Pajas, Alto de Torres, Cune, Chapaima, El Balsal, El Chorrillo, Ilo Grande, La Bolsa, La Esmeralda, La Masata, Maní, Mave, Naranjal, Payandé, Potrero grande , Quebrada Honda, El Puente, Río Dulce, San Isidro, Salitre Blanco, Salitre Blanco Bajo and Salitre Negro. Bagazal is not a village but it is a departmental inspection, nor is it the only departmental inspection since Villeta is divided into 3 departmental inspections: Bagazal, Chapaima and Ilo Grande
